The group is comprised of artists who have chosen to explore the beauty of the Central New
Jersey Coastal Area. The group was formed in the spring of 2003 and its membership and
following continue to grow. The group meets every week throughout the year, in all but the
worst weather. Every other Monday morning, the artists meet in a new location. They paint for
the morning and come back to the same location for a second (the following) week's work. After
that week's painting session is complete, members gather to critique each other's work. In
addition to its weekly schedule, the PAPJC has participated in paint outs and has been invited
to paint locally at community and business events in shore area towns. The group is developing
a community outreach program in conjunction with local senior centers and residences.
Each summer, the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast has had a major art show of the past
year's work. For our 2009-2010 year, we will be changing the dates of this show. Additional,
smaller shows are scheduled at different times throughout the year. At this time, annual dues
are charged for members who wish to participate in art shows and to share in such benefits as
web site space, links, P.R. and other group activities. Artists who simply wish to paint with a
congenial group are welcome to come to the weekly painting sessions. Members and Friends of
the the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast are welcome to work in any medium they prefer.
Although no instruction is offered, levels of expertise vary and more experienced members
support the efforts of the newer artists.
